I have been a parent governor with The Academy for a 1 year. I am a mum of two and have lived in the Wigan area since birth. I attended School and College in the Wigan area and trained as a nurse in Preston from 1986 & have been a qualified teacher in Higher Education since 2007.

I am currently working in adult education in nursing but prior to this, I had worked in a team of Health Visitors and School Nurses from 1999 to 2015. I feel this role has given me good insight into the health, social and educational issues that can impact on our children’s education, and as a parent governor, I appreciate the chance that I have been given to help our school and children to achieve and be the best that they can be.

As part of my role I have been involved with quality assurance and audit. A role which I have become involved in as parent governor. I am very interested in building the community’s capacity to look after themselves and have helped start up some community projects, an experience which has taught me skills in negotiating, planning and fund raising and I hope to use these skills within our school and local community.
