Before retirement I was a schoolmaster for 37 years, teaching Mathematics to all levels including GCSE and A level. My career progressed through various appointments including Head of Mathematics, Senior Tutor, Assistant Head and Deputy Head. All my teaching was in 11-18 Grammar/Comprehensive schools.
I possess an upper 2nd BA degree in Mathematics and am fully teacher trained. My experience involves many years as Assistant Chief Examiner at NEAB examination board. Also I undertook responsibility for whole school initiatives: – e.g. monitoring, target setting, value added and benchmarking. The school timetable, CAT testing and Key Stage 3 testing were also part of my duties. In January 2012 I was pleased to accept the post of governor for Dean Trust Wigan. I currently serve as Chair to the Academy Standards Committee and am the appointed governor with responsibility for Standards and the Curriculum.
