Absolutely catering is proud to provide the catering service for Dean Trust Wigan
As supporters of the School Food Plan we are dedicated to helping children develop a healthy eating lifestyle and to ensure they get the necessary energy and nutrition they need across the school day. We do this by helping children know which foods will help them develop as well as which will help maintain concentration levels in the classroom and stamina on the sports field. We also work hard to ensure we provide a nutritionally balanced value for money meal that children want to eat.
We believe that it is important that the food we offer, looks good, tastes delicious and satisfies the developing palates of children and young adults. We only use fresh ingredients, sourced from the right suppliers which are in season and British, where possible. We don’t use salt in our cooking methods at all, and reduce the sugar content wherever possible in all recipes. All homemade desserts contain fruit.
The focus of our menu development is on quality and variety. Our menus are designed to be attractive and appetising and adapt to the eating habits of growing children. Using only the freshest ingredients, dishes are cooked from scratch.
Pupils are able to choose from two varied hot main meals from around the world, a meat free dish and a hand held item. We also have jacket potatoes and a pasta bar (with freshly made sauce each day) as well as a deli bar with a selection of sandwiches, hot and cold homemade desserts, fresh fruit pots or platters plus homemade cakes.
Our commitment is to provide pupils:
- More than one portion of vegetables or salad as an accompaniment every day.
- At least five different fruits and three different vegetables each week.
- Wholegrain foods in place of refined carbohydrates.
- Water as a drink of choice.
- No more than two portions a week of food that has been deep fried, batter-coated or breadcrumb–coated, or two portions of pastry.
Our Main Meals start from £1.40 which includes protein, carbohydrate & vegetables as part of a well balanced meal. You can download the latest menus below.

Dean Trust Wigan operates a cashless catering system. This means that no money is exchanged at the point of sale. Instead, students ‘top-up’ their account using their registered finger, or thumb. This is done by scanning their registered digit on one of the two pay boxes, the students account name and balance will appear on-screen and when cash is inserted it its automatically topped up. You can then go to collect your choice of food which is inputted into the system by a lunch-time assistant. The purchase is then paid for by scanning their finger/thumb at the till.
